(BEDFORD) - The second public brainstorming session for downtown planning is scheduled for Feb. 13 from 4-6 p.m. at the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce.
Bedford officials are seeking input on how to revitalize the area around the Lawrence County Courthouse.
The consulting firm of Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates and city leaders have divided the city's hub into five distinct sections: Downtown Core, Depot District, I and J Street Corridor, East Downtown and West Downtown. They are considering factors such as aesthetics, mobility, public spaces and private spaces.
Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis is hopeful a well-conceived plan will help the city secure a Stellar Community Grant from the state. Bedford was a finalist in 2011 when North Vernon and Greencastle reaped $31 million in state funding for the next three years.
