(BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY) - A teenager detainee at Bartholomew County Youth Services Center briefly escaped from detention Wednesday before being caught in East Columbus.
The 15-year-old boy ran from the center at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday and was caught about 10 minutes later near Foundation For Youth, said Major Todd Noblitt, chief deputy of Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.
Noblitt said he would not provide details of how the juvenile escaped because it is a "security issue."
The boy scuffled with Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputy Tyson Matney before he was taken into custody. Matney suffered a knee injury during the altercation, Noblitt said.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the Youth Services Center on Saturday after the boy had barricaded himself in a portion of the center. Deputies convinced him to surrender, Noblitt said.
The boy faces additional juvenile charges of escape, resisting law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer from Wednesday's incident. Deputies provided information about Saturday's incident to prosecutors, who could charge him in that incident.
