(WASHINGTON) - The Washington Board of Public Works and Safety approved a motion for the continuance of a disciplinary hearing for Washington Patrolman Barry Hudson.
The request came from Hudson's attorney, Edward Merchant, who was concerned his client's testimony in the disciplinary hearing could be used against him later if criminal charges are brought against him.
Hudson is accused of violating Washington Police Department policy by using unreasonable force on a detainee at the Daviess County Security Center Dec. 24, 2011.
He initially was suspended for five days by the chief of police then reinstated with pay until the disciplinary hearing.
City attorney Tim Dant suggested the board consider offering Hudson paid leave until the original hearing date Feb. 20, then unpaid leave after that point until the issue is resolved. The board approved that suggestion.
