(BLOOMFIELD) - An aged Beech Creek Township bridge on County Road 1210E, off of State Road 43, has been closed on an emergency basis until further notice because of structural problems.
Nick Schneider of Greene County Daily World reports that the closure on the County Bridge No. 9, between Solsberry and Hendricksville, came Tuesday morning following consultation with Indiana Department of Transportation and Greene County Highway Superintendent Brent Murray.
Murray says the undercarriage support system of the bridge is in need of some immediate attention. He said some of the supports are corroded.
The 61-feet long steel truss bridge, constructed in 1905, will be closed until county officials determine if it can be repaired or if it will need replacement, Murray told the Greene County Daily World.
Murray says the bridge was on a replacement list during the last county-wide bridge inventory.
"We kind of put that off a little bit and now for our (bridge) inspection to pass, INDOT ordered it closed," Murray says.
The closure will be on County Road 1210E between State Road 43 and County Road 640N until further notice.
