(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington elementary school principal accused of battery involving a student released a statement Thursday.
Joe Childers has been on paid leave since a parent came forward saying his or her 10-year-old child was battered by Childers.
Police said the student's parents filed a report and the child was checked out at a local hospital.
Childers issued a statement saying:
"The past week has been a difficult time for many, including myself. I do believe in the legal system and trust that this matter will be fully and properly investigated...
"Once fully reviewed and investigated, I have confidence that I will be exonerated of any wrongdoings.
"I look forward to returning as principal of Binford Elementary School in the coming days and to return to my commitment to the health, welfare and safety of each student, faculty and staff member."
So far, Childers has not been arrested or charged.
