(BROWNSTOWN) - Marion-Kay Spice Co. will present The Great Chili Cookoff from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the company’s factory in Brownstown to benefit the American Red Cross.
Participants will be spicing up their concoctions with Marion Kay's herbal spices.
Entrants who have signed up to prepare and serve their best chili offerings include Soups by Design, Hanger 5, Scooters, Garage Pub, Bubba Blues BBQ, and Powerhouse Brewing Company of Columbus, Michi's of Brownstown and Bloomington's Showers Inn.
Two teams from Columbus North High School will participate, along with Columbus resident and former restaurateur Jeff Shonk, who's bringing a four-man team to prepare his chili recipe.
Attendees may sample tastings of each chili recipe. There will also be live music, a prize drawing and a silent auction featuring dozens of items including travel, food, books and fitness.
There is a $5 fee to attend the event and sample the chili.
The factory will also be open for tours from noon to 4 p.m.
Individuals, professional organizations and community groups are invited to participate in the Marion-Kay Great Chili Cookoff for a $15 entry fee. A portion of all event proceeds will be donated to benefit the American Red Cross.
There will also be a blood drive on-site for those who wish to make such a contribution.
Marion-Kay Spice Co. is at 1351 W. U.S. 50 in Brownstown.
