(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council approved the additional appropriation of $300,000 for Bedford Fire department Chief Jon Wagner to purchase a new fire engine.
"We need an engine in the worse way," Wagner said. "The 1989 front line engine needs to be replaced. It's not functioning and cannot be repaired. We can't find parts to even do repairs. It needs a new pump."
Wagner has started contacting company requesting bids for a demo or stock truck.
"Those are a lot cheaper, they don't have all the bells and whistles," he added. "It will have some miles on it, but it will do the job."
Mayor Shawna Girgis suggested the city pay cash for the fire engine truck instead of taking out a loan allowing the city to get a better deal on the fire engine.
The council also voted to pass a resolution honoring Lawrence County Aquatics swim club and Bedford North Lawrence swim team Coach Marc McCay.
