(DUGGER) - After a rough winter, Dugger residents hope a spring celebration will restore a sense of civic pride and unity.
Hence, D.I.G. - the Dugger Improvement Group - has begun planning the first Spring Fun Day Festival on Saturday, May 5.
Mark Stalcup, of the Greene County Daily World, reports any money that is raised by the Dugger Improvement Group will be used to improve Dugger in ways like planting flowers to beautify the town or purchasing new playground equipment for the park, organizers said.
It's also a party aimed at lifting the community's spirits, and one organizers hope becomes an annual event.
"This isn't a fundraiser," said D.I.G. organizer Vicki Figg of the festival, to be held at the Dugger Community Center and the Dugger Park. Community Center and the Dugger Park.
Among the events which organizers, who convened their first meeting Sunday, plan are community yard sales, a pancake breakfast, car show, craft stands and food vendors.
Also planned are a hog roast, kids games, a cake walk, face painting, live entertainment and a corn hole and volleyball tournament.
However, Figg emphasized more volunteers are needed, and not all of those plans are set in stone.
Help's needed, for example, in organizing entertainment, perhaps just an "open mike" night where participants can strum guitars and sing.
A volunteer's also needed, Figg said, to help organize the car show. Should none emerge, it's probable the car show could be cancelled, with organizers trying again next year.
