(JASONVILLE) - Girl Scout Troop No. 1257 took part in the Operation Cookie Drop for soldiers overseas, but now they are thinking closer to home.
Troop leader Denise Fougerousse explained this project will help Jasonville juniors and cadets work towards earning their Bronze Award, which consists of 20 hours of volunteering.
Sabrina Westfall of the Greene County Daily World reported their goal is to have a total of 120 cookies donated to their Cookies for Vets project. So far, they have received 45 boxes to deliver.
"Volunteers and the Girl Scouts are going to be hand delivering the cookies to the VA Hospital in Indianapolis," Fougerousse said.
They hope to have enough cookies donated to give each veteran being treated at the hospital a box.
"We would like our community to think about the veterans and support the men and women who have already served," Fougerousse said. "There are a lot of veterans who have already served, and they need to know we still think about them."
