(BLOOMINGTON) -The Indiana Memorial Union on IU’s college campus is used every day by students and staff.
However, the homeless are also using the building.
They watch television, gather to talk, and try to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This all while keeping to themselves.
IMU Associate Executive Director Thom Simmons said an extremely high number of homeless people have been in the Union this year compared to other years.
They have seen some incidents of public intoxication, but he says as long as the homeless follow the rules and don't abuse their privileges they can stay. Offenders are given a warning for the first offense and then on the second offense they are barred from the facility.
