(BEDFORD) - 57-year-old John Roell, of Bedford, died in an Indianapolis hospital after crashing his moped into a stone wall Saturday evening.
Bedford Police were notified of Roell's death by the Marion County Coroner's office Sunday. BPD Assistant Chief Joe DeWees says it is not clear if Roell died from the results of injuries in the crash or other medical condition that might have contributed to the wreck, police are waiting on the results of an autopsy.
At the time, according to police, Roell was riding north on Lincoln Avenue approaching 10th Street. A witness told police that the moped veered off the east side of the road onto the sidewalk and hit a wall.
When police arrived, the witness was performing CPR on the man. Officers then took over CPR and until Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance personnel arrived.
Roell was taken to IU Health Bedford Hospital and from there airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where he died.
