(MITCHELL) - Mitchell residents are upset because about 20 Bradford Pear trees along Main Street were cut down.
Mayor Gary Pruett says the city didn't have any other option. The trees grow quickly and the trunks weaken with age. The roots have started to lifting up the sidewalks and steel grates creating a safety hazard and the potential for costly repairs.
The mayor has talked to a nursery about options, but there are no immediate plane to replace the trees
