(MITCHELL) - Thanks to the donations of a generous group two American flags in Mitchell will be illuminated at night. Mitchell resident Ron Pridemore spearheaded the community support.
During the Mitchell Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Pridemore told board members he had gathered funds to cover the $2,500 to get electric cable trenched to both poles. One flag is in front of the city pool and the other is in the middle of the Mitchell Cemetery.
Pridemore, a veteran, brought the issue of the flags not being illuminated last month. The flag at the cemetery was lit with a solar light, but that has since stopped working.
Those providing the funding, is an anonymous donor, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107, the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, and hopefully the American Legion Post No. 250, if the Legion approves the donation. But Pridemore says if the donations do not come in he and his wife will cover the cost.
Mayor Gary Pruett and Street Commissioner Larry Harris are also going to donate to the project. The board also agreed to pay 20 percent of the cost of the installation and approved that work could begin to get the project completed.
