(BLOOMINGTON) - The North Showers county government building in Bloomington is going green with new solar panels. More than 200 panels will be added to the building by April.
An Office of Energy Development grant of more than $278,000 allowed the county to purchase the solar panels and partially finance repairs to the roof.
The system will feed energy directly into the building. It's expected to reduce energy costs by 10 percent. The solar panel project was one of just four proposals selected for the grant out of nearly 80 applicants statewide.
The project began at the end of December and will be officially announced on April 21, which is the day before Earth Day.
