(CAMP ATTERBURY) - Camp Atterbury has a new commander.
The Indiana National Guard says Colonel Ivan Denton took command Monday of the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center from Colonel Todd Townsend.
The Guard says Denton has more than 30 years of service. His most recent tour was in Iraq with the 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, one the last Indiana National Guard units in rotation in support of Operation New Dawn. Denton also has had various assignments across Indiana including recruiting battalion commander, director of army personnel and infantry battalion commander.
Townsend joined the Indiana Guard in 1978 and worked at Joint Force Headquarters in Indianapolis in several positions before taking command at the camp south of Indianapolis in January 2009.
He now becomes vice chief of staff at the Joint Forces Headquarters.
