(UNDATED) - Indiana residents can protect themselves and others with “reasonable” action - including deadly force - when threatened with immediate danger.
They can do so without being placed in legal jeopardy, according to state law, but police say anyone who uses physical force against another person must be able to explain his actions and will be held accountable.
Indiana is one of 25 states with self-defense laws that contain provisions generally allowing the use of deadly force in self-defense with no duty to retreat when outside the home, according to the Legal Community Against Violence, a national public-interest law center based in San Francisco dedicated to preventing gun violence.
