(SEYMOUR) - A Jackson County reserve officer helping serve a felony warrant on Seymour’s west side on Monday was hospitalized after a dog attacked him.
Police attempted to serve the warrant on Larry Scott at 509 W. Third St.
While police were at the front door, a woman who lived at the home and her daughter arrived. Police asked them to secure the two dogs so officers could go in the house and find Scott.
The daughter went into the house and then let the dogs out the back door, where Murphy was standing on the back porch and the dogs attacked him.
Murphy was not bitten, but he fell off the porch backwards. Officer Jeff Walters
then rushed around the house to help Murphy and was attacked by the dogs.
Walters shot one of the dogs. That is when the woman and her daughter panicked, grabbed both dogs and got into her car to take the dog that had been shot to a vet. That is when the woman backed into the police cruiser.
By that point, other city officers had arrived and Seymour Sgt. Ryan Huddleston investigated that accident. Other officers continued to look for the 50-year-old Scott, who was not found in the residence.
Scott was wanted on a warrant failure to appear for the original entry, a Class D felony.
