(LAWRENCE HOLLOW) - Greene County police say Kelby Roberts fired a gun at the trailer of Gerald Hollars because he believed Hollars slashed the tires on his friend’s vehicles.
Hollars suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach during the shooting at Lawrence Hollow, about a mile off State Road 45. He was taken to IU Bloomington Hospital where he underwent surgery.
20-year-old Roberts faces two counts of criminal recklessness, both class C felonies.
He's being held in the Greene County Jail at Bloomfield on $10,000 bond.
No initial court date has been set.
According to a probably cause affidavit Hollars was sleeping on the couch when someone started shooting a semi-automatic firearm.
Police found six bullet holes in the front of Hollars' mobile home and five large holes and two small holes in the back of the trailer, which is situated down a hill with a heavily wooded area in front of it.
Police recovered a Russian 7.62x54 bolt-action rifle in a closet at Matt Lumm's home. Roberts told police he went to Hollar's trailer after he heard that Hollar had slashed the tires on several vehicles owned by Lumm. He told police he stood in the tree line about 25 to 50 feet away and intended to fire the gun into the ground "to prove a point." But instead, Roberts fired into the trailer. Roberts told police he didn't intend to hurt anyone, but he had been drinking and "had a good buzz."
