(SPENCER) - The Indiana Department of Transportation and Spencer Town Council members were joined by other local officials at a ceremonial groundbreaking for a road rehabilitation project on State Road 46 in Spencer.
The $5.1 million dollar project will take place on S.R. 46 beginning at the junction of S.R. 67, 46 and US 231. Crews will begin clearing right-of-way for utility relocation work throughout 2012. No major impacts to traffic will take place this year.
The project features widen travel lanes and shoulders, intersection improvements, sidewalks, and the replacement of Meadowbrook Creek Bridge.
Once the construction phase of the project begins, installation of two temporary traffic signals will be placed along S.R. 46 for bridge deck resurfacing on the Fish Creek and Rattlesnake Creek Bridges. The overall completion date for the project is scheduled for November 2013.
"This project represents a successful collaboration between state and local officials working together to achieve these needed improvements," said Seymour District Deputy Commissioner Kathy Eaton-McKalip.
The purpose of this project is to enhance safety by correcting existing geometric and alignment deficiencies, and by providing increased shoulder widths, spot improvements to the alignment, and improves intersection geometrics.
