(BEDFORD) - Past and present Lawrence County Aquatics swim club members and Bedford North Lawrence members of the swim team and their families will honor Coach Marc McCay at the first Baptist Church on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis will present McCay with a resolution recognizing him for his contributions to the city. The City Council voted Tuesday night to honor McCay with the resolution.
A little over nine years ago, McCay moved to Indiana from California to pursue an education at IU for the fine arts and discovered he had a talent for coaching swimming.
McCay soon began coaching both at the Lawrence County Aquatics swim club and both the girls and boys swim programs at Bedford North Lawrence.
Since then he has built a powerhouse in the BNL pool, winning five sectional titles in his tenure with the Stars and five consecutive Hoosier Hills Conference crowns. But McCay is moving on.
McCay's wife, Kim, has accepted a position at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wa., just east of Seattle and was asked to start immediately.
The former BNL coach had not ruled out coaching in the future.
