Winners Of Bloomington Human Rights Commission Contest

(BLOOMINGTON) - Winning entries have been announced for the 21st Annual City of Bloomington Human Rights Commission essay and art contest.

The theme this year was "What I've Learned from People Different than Me." The judges for the entries were commission members Alexa Lopez, Teri Guhl, Michael Molenda and Amy Jackson.

An awards ceremony will be held April 3 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Mayor Mark Kruzan will present the prizes and the public is invited to this ceremony.

The essay winners at the younger student level were:

First place - Ada Lynch, grade 4, University Elementary

Second place - Anabelle Thomassen, grade 4, University Elementary

Third place - Andrew Swank, grade 2, Rogers Elementary

The essay winners at the older student level were:

First place - Mari Walter-Bailey, grade 7, Batchelor Middle School

Second place - Sydnie Lynn Cunningham, grade 6, Lakeview Elementary

Third place - Allison VanLeeuwen, grade 6, Lakeview Elementary

The art winners at the younger student level were:

First place - Quinn Wilson, grade 4, University Elementary

Second place - Salem Akhras, grade 2, Childs Elementary

Third place - Simon Moore, grade 2, Childs Elementary

Mention - Diego Smith, grade 4, University Elementary

The art winners at the older student level were:

First place - Noah Moore, grade 5, University Elementary

Second place - Caitlyn Betar, grade 6, Lakeview Elementary

Third place - Tyler Shay, grade 6, Lakeview Elementary
