(WORTHINGTON) - The Worthington Police Department is seeking applicants for auxiliary reserve officers after Reserve Officer Jason Wilson resigned.
According to Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World, Wilson's last day will be March 31. The department is also down an officer after Town Marshal Dennis Conaway was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
According to interim Town Marshal Don Richardson Wilson is seeking a position with the Greene County Sheriff's Department's Reserve Unit.
Now the department has Eric Floyd and Randy Raney and Richardson on the department, with Raney being the only auxiliary officer.
Applications can be picked up at the clerk-treasurer's office or talk with Richardson at the police department.
The department has been short-handed in part since Town Marshal Dennis Conaway was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 13, 2012 by the town council pending the outcome of an investigation.
Richardson was appointed interim marshal until after the investigation is complete.
Conaway had already announced plans to retire from the department in early February.
The application process for the marshal's job is under way.
Details of why Conaway, who's been with the department for 18 years, was placed on leave have not been released by the council members or town attorney Jacob Fish.
A special prosecutor was appointed Feb. 24 to investigate and determine if criminal charges will be filed against Conaway.
Attorney Barry Brown, of Bloomington, was appointed in an order issued by Greene Superior Court Judge Dena Martin.
It will be up to Brown to investigate any allegations and determine if criminal charges are warranted, according to Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw, who requested a special prosecutor be appointed in the case.
