(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Hiking Club will host 5K and 10K walks in The Valley on April 21.
The walk features some of the French Lick and West Baden Springs' historical and scenic attractions. The walk begins at the historic French Lick Hotel and includes six special events.
For those who enjoy history, the walk will pass old buildings, including at least three historic churches:
Walkers also will see the Pluto plant and learn how the town's favorite son Larry Bird has left his mark.
The railroad depot and museum is a checkpoint. This historic 1907 building has a gift shop and offers scheduled rides on historic trains. Participants will pass the French Lick Winery, which may be open for lunch and wine tasting. Another noteworthy attraction is the Ballard Mansion, now a bed and breakfast called the Beechwood Inn. Mr. Ballard once owned the West Baden Hotel as well as circuses, casinos and other ventures.
Also in the area are world class golf courses, an indoor water park, indoor go-cart track and a casino. At the grand hotels, various live music and special programs are offered.
