(FAYETTEVILLE) - The Fayetteville Community Lions Club recently sponsored its first annual Youth Essay Contest.
Fifth-graders at Fayetteville School were invited to participate in the contest by writing an essay on the theme, "What Helping Others Means to Me".
Teachers Mrs. Nikirk and Mrs. Ramsey were helpful by encouraging the students to write the essays.
During a presentation at the school, each of the 23 participants was given a certificate. Carlee Kelley, daughter of Brian and Melissa Kelley, was announced as the winner. She read her winning essay and received a trophy and $25.
A plaque will also be permanently displayed in the school, and each year the winner's name will be added to it. Carlee and her family were guests at the February 23rd club meeting. She read her essay to the 26 members present.
Special thanks to Lions Pete and Mary Pritchett for making and donating the beautiful trophy and plaque.
