(BLOOMINGTON) - A European monarch will honor a Grammy-nominated Indiana University music professor this summer for his work.
Queen Sofia of Spain will present pianist and Jacobs School of Music professor Menahem Pressler with the 2012 Yehudi Menuhin Prize during a June ceremony in Madrid.
The prize was created by Spain's Reina Sofia School of Music to recognize musicians who have also helped to educate young musicians. Pressler will become the ninth winner of this award, which includes 18,000 euros and a medal to be given by Queen Sofia at the end of the Spanish music school's academic year.
Pressler is a Grammy-nominated pianist and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He's received the highest cultural honors from France and Germany.
