(BLOOMINGTON) - An 18-year-old Indiana University student reported he was assaulted by three men while he was at Ninth street and Fess Svenue at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
IU Police Chief Keith Cash says the teen did not know the men that attacked him.
Cash says the student had been studying with friends and was headed home when he was stopped by the men who wanted his wallet.
The student was beat up by the men and thrown to the ground. His friends found him at about 8:30 a.m. lying on the ground near parked cars. He was taken to the hospital and treated for bruises and laceration to his face.
The student was able to give a description to police. Anyone with information is asked to call IU police. He also reminds students and the public to be aware of their surroundings and for safety travel in groups.
One man was white, between 18 to 25 years old and weighted between 195 to 200 pounds and was about 6 feet tall, with facial hair under his mouth and around his chin, wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
Another was also described as a white male of the same age and height, about 170 pounds, wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
The student described the last alleged assailant as a black male of the same age, between 175 and 180 pounds, 6 feet 3 inches, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with "Indiana University" embroidery.
Cash asked anyone with information about the assault to call IU police at 812-855-4111. He also recommended pedestrians remain aware of their surroundings and travel in groups when walking at night.
