(SPRINGVILLE) - Lawrence County Police are investigating the break-in at two churches.
The first was discovered Monday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church on Siebolt Quarry Road in Springville.
Deacon Richard Ramsey called police after he noticed the north side door of the church was open.
"The thieves broke into the office area and into the safe," Chief Deputy Mike Branham says. "Several items were taken from the church."
The second break-in was reported early Tuesday morning at the Guthrie Christian Church.
There thieves busted in the back door.
"Caretakers for the church reported the break-in but currently it looks like nothing was taken," Branham says. "The only damage was done to the back door."
Branham says the two incidents could be related.
"It's really too early to say, but they are located in the same area and only a few miles apart," he added.
Anyone with information should contact the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
