(LINTON) - An alleged Linton convenience store shoplifter with an apparent sweet tooth for a candy bar, but enough health awareness to prefer a no-calorie diet soft drink, faces a felony theft charge.
Nick Schneider, of Greene County Daily World, reports that Jason Cooper, 34, who was identified by store owner Jim Friede as a frequent store patron, paid for gasoline at the Petro Plus Service Station on Northeast A Street.
However, he allegedly ate, but didn't pay for a "Whatchamallit" candy bar and consumed a Sprite Zero soft drink before leaving the store on March 28, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court by Linton Police Officer Nick Yingling.
Video surveillance tape, according to the probable cause affidavit, showed Cooper walk into the store and grabbed the peanut-flavor crisp topped with a layer of caramel and dipped in chocolate candy bar. He then walked over to the refrigerator and grabbed the lemon-lime flavored diet soft drink and proceeded to stand next to the newspaper rack in the front of the store and consume both stolen items.
Cooper then paid for the gasoline he had pumped into his vehicle and left the store.
