(LINTON) - Linton-Stockton Elementary School Guidance Counselor Angela Colliver was chosen as one of 15 Peabody Energy Leaders in Education in the district for the 2011-12 school year.
Peabody Program Director Maureen Moore, with local Peabody Mine employees Mark Sebree and June Mack, visited the elementary school to present the $1,000 award and gift basket which included a Flip Video Camera.
Teachers in each district are nominated for the award, then the teacher is contacted to submit an application, answer three essay questions and submit a character reference. Based on that information, a panel of judges look through the information and select the leader in education based on his/her accomplishments.
Colliver and Principal Kent Brewer will attend a dinner this summer in Evansville where the top educator of the year will be recognized.
Peabody Energy Leaders in Education will be opening up its Facebook page from May 15 to June 15 to allow anyone to vote for the leaders.
Each person will get one vote, which will count towards one-third of the deciding vote for the top educator of the year.
