(UNDATED) - Federal and local authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating 40 unregistered sex offenders in central and south central Indiana.
Beginning today, the U.S. Marshals Service says it will team with 15 county sheriff's departments - including Lawrence, Greene, and Monroe - and Crime
Stoppers of Central Indiana to locate the offenders, who have failed to register their addresses as required by law.
Authorities are inviting anonymous tips regarding the sex offenders' whereabouts. Tipsters may qualify for a cash reward through Crime Stoppers.
The Marshals Service says a similar operation in December resulted in the location or arrests of 20 sex offenders.
The sex offenders are also being sought in Boone, Brown, Jennings, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Putnam and Shelby counties.
