(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Cemetery caretaker Mike Bowling asked the Mitchell Board of Works to open up a section of the city-owned cemetery for pauper burials.
The area would be near the woods, adjacent to the land formerly owned by Walter Little, which the city purchased to expand the cemetery.
The area would be home to about 80 graves. However, Mitchell officials need to look at an ordinance, governing pauper burials because the wording is not clear on how to determine a pauper status.
Mayor Gary Pruett will ask city attorney Byron Steele to look at the ordinance and then advise the city on how to proceed.
