(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell City Council approved a resolution to lease approximately 49 acres in the city’s Industrial Park.
Farmers have until noon on April 23rd to submit a proposal on the property. Mayor Gary Pruitt says the land needs improvements.
The city recently covered a six-inch gas line that was exposed, but the property has several deep ditches due to erosion problems. Whoever leases the land will have to correct those issues.
Pruitt says by leasing the property the city will generate income and farming the land will improve the soil conditions.
The council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on April 23 to review the proposals and award the lease.
In other business:
Councilwoman Nancy Miller will no longer represent the city on the Southern Indiana Development Commission. Miller was appointed during the March city council meeting, but has since said she can't serve in that capacity. Mayor Pruitt will take her place.
Kenny Hutchinson asked the council to allow him to block off Warren Street, between Fifth and Sixth Street on April 21st. Hutchinson plans to hold a street carnival.
There will be a car show, inflatables, corn hole and basketball tournaments and bands. 25 percent of the proceeds Hutchinson raises, will be donated the Fraternal Order Of Police Shop-With-A Cop program.
Hutchinson asked the road be blocked from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., but Councilwoman Vicky Schlegel was concerned about blocking the road for that long of a period. The board voted to block the road from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
