(MUSCATATUCK) - Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge will offer two Junior Master Naturalist courses this summer for students between 9 years and 13 years of age.
One session will be June 18 to June 22 and the other will be July 16 to July 20. The sessions are the same.
The course will consist of half-day morning programs on plants, wildlife, geology, wetlands and other natural resource topics. The location will be the refuge Visitor Center and times will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
A $20 fee is payable at the first class to cover course materials.
Different subjects will be covered each day of the course, and students will be expected to attend all of the sessions and complete some volunteer work to receive a Junior Master Naturalist pin and certificate.
Advance registration is required and parents or guardians must sign a permission slip at the first class meeting.
"The Junior Master Naturalist course is a fun way for students to learn about nature, and is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society," Ranger Donna Stanley said.
