(SEYMOUR) - A 22-year-old Jackson County man was treated Monday for an accidental self-inflicted gunshot, police said.
Officer Charlie Murphy was called to the emergency room at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour around 5:20 p.m. Monday to investigate the shooting..
Erwin told police he was at his home in the 1800 block of North Ewing Street in Seymour and was cleaning his Springfield XD 9mm handgun when the incident happened
.
Erwin said he had put the slide back on the gun and "racked" it, and when he let go, the gun fired a round into his left leg.
Murphy said it appeared the round entered the fleshy part of Erwin's left leg and had not hit any bones or arteries.
Erwin said he wrapped his leg with a tourniquet, called his girlfriend who was at work, and she came and took him to Schneck. Erwin was released after being treated for the wound.
