(SEYMOUR) - Seymour police continue to look into a string of thefts over the weekend in which items were taken from at least 10 vehicles.
The city wasn't alone in weekend thefts, however, as Medora police officers are investigating the theft there of street signs.
"The majority of the thefts involved unlocked vehicles," Seymour Assistant Police Chief Craig Hayes said Monday of the incidents reported both Saturday morning and again Sunday morning.
Hayes said the thefts were reported in the Boulevards area on the west side of the city, especially Carter Boulevard and Emerson Drive, and along West Eighth Street in the Crestview addition.
"Several GPS units were stolen," Hayes said.
Stereo equipment and small electronic items such as iPods as well as small amounts of money were also targeted, he added.
Hayes said people should lock their vehicles, and if they want to keep such items in the car instead of taking them into their residence, they should at least hide them.
"If the door is unlocked and they can see a GPS unit in the window, they can open the door, reach in and grab it and be gone," Hayes said.
He said locking the door means making a potential thief or thieves have to work for it.
"If they want it bad enough they're going to break in anyway," he said.
