(UNDATED) - Work is underway on the State Road 37 roadway reconstruction project in Orange County. The Indiana Department of Transportation awarded the $8.3 million contract to Gohmann Asphalt & Construction of Clarksville.
Contractor's and utility crews have been working adjacent to Ind. 37 between Mitchell and Orleans with minor impacts to the driving lanes.
Starting today crews will begin restricting traffic to one-lane to allow for the installation of drainage structures under the road.
Flag persons will be used to stop and control traffic through the work zones. This will cause delays. To increase safety, a 10 ½ - foot width restriction will be placed on Ind. 37 and the speed limit will also be reduced to 35 mph.
Utility relocation work will continue on the southern end of the project between Orleans and Paoli with minimal impact to motorists. The project limits of this contract begin just south of Mitchell near Haney Street to just north of U.S. 150 in Paoli.
Work includes roadway rehabilitation, adding paved shoulders and replacement of drainage structures under the roadway. Traffic patterns will change as the project progresses.
This project is currently scheduled to be complete in November of 2013.
INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone.
