(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police arrested 43-year-old John Dowden, who is staying at the Shalom Center on Walnut Street, after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman who was passed out from drinking too much alcohol Sunday.
IU Police Chief Keith Cash says police and another man, who both had been drinking, were arguing in Memorial Stadium's Red Lot because Dowden was trying to sexually assault a woman they were with. The woman, who was intoxicated, was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Dowden, a parolee, has convictions in Marion, Floyd and Perry counties for driving while intoxicated resulting in death, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with previous convictions for the same offense, escape, invasion of privacy and being a habitual substance abuse offender.
Dowden was charged with criminal deviate conduct and sexual battery.
