(BEDFORD) - More than 1,400 competitive bowhunters will descend on Lawrence County this weekend for the first leg of the International Bowhunting Organization National Championship Triple Crown at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bedford.
From 7 a.m. until dark, competitive bowhunters - organized by professional, semi-pro and amateur classes - will take to the woods and test their skills on 40 3-D targets.
Competitors who perform well in the first leg can continue on toward the second leg in Fairview, PA., and the third and final leg in Marengo, Ohio.
This is the 27th year the IBO Midwest Classic has been in Bedford, the longest a town has hosted a leg of the three-part Triple Crown.
Scoring is a cumulative total based on how competitors perform on each target. Groups will be shooting at different areas of the woods at the same time to ensure that competitors shoot under similar conditions.
In addition to the competition, more than 70 vendors will be selling their latest and greatest wares for archers of all kinds.
There will also be special shoots for the physically challenged at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a shoot for children at 4 p.m.
The National Wild Turkey Federation will have a laser shoot for $5. Money raised from the event will be put back into the local community and may help fund the National

The events will be at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bedford. Registration will open Thursday at 6 p.m.; campgrounds open at noon Thursday, as does the practice range.
Vendors will have booths open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and 9 a.m.-noon May 20.
There will be a special shoot for people with physical challenges at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed at 4 p.m. with a shoot for youngsters.
