(MITCHELL) - Valeric Luchauer, county director of emergency management, reported that telephone service has been restored to the southern part of Lawrence County.
The outage was caused when a fiber-optic cable for Frontier, formerly Verizon, was cut in the Salem area.
The outage affected telephone, cell phones and Internet access - which left residents with no way to call 911.
Residents with emergencies were directed to go the the Marion Township Fire Station on Ind. 37 or the Mitchell Police Department for assistants.
Luchaure says the outage was from Salem to Sellersburg.
