The Martin County Sheriff's Department reported that at the time of the accident five teens, four from Washington and one from Loogootee were on a 2010 Star golf cart traveling down a large hill just inside the West Boggs gate when the cart increased speed and hit the edge of the roadway, causing the driver to lose control. The cart tipped onto its passenger side and skidded to a rest.
Three of the teens were transported to Daviess Community Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. One male managed to jump clear of the accident and received no injuries. One male was flown by Air Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of a head injury, broken collar bone, and torn tendons and a break in his arm.
Units from the Daviess County Sheriff's Department, Southwest Ambulance, the Loogootee Volunteer Fire Department, and the Martin Parks Department Ranger provided assistance.
Martin County Deputy Joshua Greene was the investigating officer. Greene reminds campers and visitors to West Boggs Park that to operate a golf cart in the Park, the driver must have a valid driver's license or be accompanied by a licensed parent, guardian, or other adult family member. A complete copy of the golf cart regulations and operation guidelines man be picked up at the West Boggs Park gatehouse.
