(MITCHELL) - Jennifer Caruso was named the new principal at Mitchell Junior High School, Monday night.
The school board, by a unanimous vote, took the recommendation of Superintendent Steve Phillips to hire Caruso.
Caruso will replace Darin Farris who resigned to become principal at Eastern High School in Pekin. Farris took the position to be closer to home. Farris lives in Washington County. His resignation is effective June 30.
42-year-old Caruso lives in Mitchell with her husband Kelly and the couples four children. Caruso will make $81,671 annually.
Six people applied and were interviewed to fill Farris' position. Two finalists were chosen to go to a final interview with board members Monday night.
Caruso has been with Mitchell schools for 16 years. She started as a teacher in the preschool for special needs children, then moved to teaching kindergarten and, later, first grade. For the past three years she has been an instructional coach at Hatfield Elementary School, working to help teachers.
Caruso has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Indiana Wesleyan and obtained her principal's license there.
