(BEDFORD) - Dexter and Becky Sipes, new directors of Bedford’s annual Limestone Heritage Festival Parade, met with volunteers Wednesday night at the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce to lay down groundwork for this year’s event, slated for Wednesday, July 4, on the downtown square.
Though the 2012 grand marshal and sponsors remain a secret, the committee announced the 2012 theme to be: "Let Freedom Ring." The committee seeks to expand last year's parade entry total of 61 units.
The basic categories include: float; walking unit; equestrian; antique vehicle; musical; and special (queen or dignitary). All units should be decorated with the parade theme in mind. Seventeen awards will be presented this year.
The group has applied for a flyover.
The event is scheduled to begin with the grand marshal lap and flag presentation at 11:30 a.m. The parade commences at noon.
The deadline to enter a parade unit is June 22. Registration forms are available at the chamber and Times-Mail.
The annual BBQ at the Quarry is slated for June 29tb, and June 30th.
The 2012 Limestone Heritage Festival also will feature the customary ice cream social and concerts at the Thornton Park Pavilion, plus the concert and fireworks display at Parkview Field. For more information regarding the parade, call 279-3326 or 583-8027.
