(LINTON) - Sabrina Westfall, of the Greene County Daily World, reports a suspect was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of attempted burglary and attempted robbery of the Smoker’s Host in Linton.
According to Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell, Gary Cross of Linton was arrested after allegedly walking into Smoker's Host around 9:20 a.m. on Monday with a box cutter and demanding cash from the clerk.
The suspect had allegedly been to the Smoker's Host, located at 309 A St. NW, a short time before the incident, but returned to the store demanding the clerk to "give me all the money" while threatening her with the box cutter.
Jerrell said words were exchanged between Cross and the clerk, and he fled the store on foot without taking any of the store's cash.
Jerrell said a suspicious person was called into the Greene County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff Terry Pierce offered the man help, and took Cross to his mother's residence.
Pierce contacted Jerrell to inform him of the whereabouts of the man matching the robbery suspect's description.
LPD detectives interviewed Cross, talked to other witnesses, and placed Cross in custody.
Assisting with the investigation were LPD Det. Duane Collenbaugh and LPD officer Karl Jacobshagen.
