(COLUMBUS) - Columbus police arrested a Bartholomew County man at gunpoint Wednesday after he waved a “toy” pellet gun outside a home in the 5200 block of Regency Drive.
26-year-old Lee T. Bybee, of Columbus, is accused of pointing the pellet gun, which was painted black and looked like a real gun, at residents on Regency Drive and motorists driving in the area.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 1 pm. When officers arrived, they asked Bybee to put the gun down. He refused. Police say Bybee never pointed the gun at any of the officers, but did point it at a vehicle in the home's driveway. Witnesses told police that he had pointed the gun at them.
Nine officers were at the scene with weapons drawn, and other officers were on their way before Bybee complied with police commands. Police say Bybee appeared to be drunk, and officers found an empty whiskey bottle nearby.
Bybee was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of intimidation and public intoxication.
