(BLOOMINGTON) - A woman reported she was robbed of her purse and cell phone by a man with a gun in a white sedan Tuesday afternoon near campus on the city’s east side.
A 31-year-old woman told police that she was walking on University Street, in the area of Mitchell Street and Swain Avenue, about 3 p.m. Tuesday. The woman told police that a white sedan pulled next to her. She thought they were going to ask for directions, so she stopped.
The woman told police she saw a man holding a gun that she thought looked like a revolver, according to Bloomington police Sgt. John Kovach.
The woman said the man pointed the gun at her and said, "Purse and phone now."
The woman removed her purse and cell phone from the computer case she was carrying, and placed them on the ground. She told police he then said to her, "Take the computer and go," and she ran.
The woman ran until she stumbled upon a postal worker, and police were called, Kovach said.
The suspect was described to police as being a black man, possibly in his 30s, with medium skin tone, thin facial features, large eyes with dark circles and very short black hair. The suspect was described as driving an older model white, four-door sedan that resembled an old police car, but it didn't have a spot light.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Randy Gehlhausen at 349-3325.
