(SEYMOUR) - 18-year-old Shaylee Zike, of Seymour, died Monday at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Zike was injured in a May 5 wreck along with seven others. Zike was a passenger in the backseat of a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 20-year-old Jared Roark, of Seymour. Roark was traveling east on Indiana 258 when he was involved in a wreck with a 2009 GMC being driven west by 23-year-old Kyle S. Halterman, also of Seymour.
Police said the wreck occurred as Halterman started to make a left turn into a private drive, turning in front of Roark's vehicle. Roark and four other passengers riding in his Cobalt also were injured in the wreck. Those passengers included Michelle Napier, 16, of Seymour, who was riding in the front passenger seat, and Amber Nichole Blake, 18, of Seymour, Kalynn F. Hamilton, 17, of Brownstown and Olivia Brewer, 15, of Seymour. Blake, Hamilton and Brewer were riding in the backseat along with Zike, police reported.
Halterman and a passenger in his vehicle, Jill D. Halterman, 22, of Seymour, also were injured in the wreck.
Zike will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown after a funeral service con¬ducted by Scott Erwin at 1 p. m. Friday at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene in Brownstown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until time of service at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.
