Toddlers Found Wondering In Bloomington Parking Lot

Last updated on Thursday, May 17, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Officers from the Bloomington Police Department responded to a complaint Sunday that three young children had been wandering around a parking lot at Waapehani Hill apartments on South Oakdale Drive unsupervised for several hours

The oldest boy was 3-years-old and the youngest child was 7-months.

The witness who called police says he first saw the children in the lot at about 1:30 p.m.
Police received the call at 6:20 p.m.

Police says none of the children were wearing shoes and the baby was found chewing on a metal screw. The man who called says the children were trying to get into his apartment and wanted food because they were hungry.

The children could not tell police where they lived, so officers began knocking on doors.

They found the 22-year-old mother, who told police she had put the children down for a nap several hours ago and she too took a nap.

Children Services were called who released the children to their mother. Police filed three counts of neglect of dependent charges against the mother, those charges are still pending.
