(WASHINGTON) - 40-year-old Larry Tressel, of Washington, has pleaded guilty to attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery resulting in injury. He will be sentenced on June 18th.
Tressel plead guilty to stabbing his then 32-year-old wife Tabatha Tressel on Sept, 23rd, 2010 when the two got into a fight after Larry allegedly sold Tabatha's DVDs for beer money. Neighbors found Tabatha in the yard of the couple's apartment on East Main Street bleeding from two stab wounds to her chest.
Following the stabbing, Larry Tressel was seen fleeing the scene and a short time later was apprehended by Washington police officers. He has been held at Daviess County Security Center on $1 million cash or 10 percent bond.
At the time of his arrest, Tressel was wanted on a Martin County warrant for failure to appear on a criminal mischief charge and on two Lawrence County warrants for public intoxication and failure to appear for criminal mischief. They dated to 2008 and 2009.
The probable cause affidavit in the stabbing case stated Larry had stabbed Tabatha in the leg another time, but the incident had never been reported; that he had stabbed a man in a bar one time; and that he once had attempted to shoot his mother with a bow and arrow. During interrogation, Tressel admitted to the incidents, according to the affidavit. The state filed notice of intent to sentence him as a habitual offender.
A Class A felony carries a presumptive sentence of 30 years, but the judge may add up to 20 years for aggravating circumstances or subtract as much as 10 years for mitigating circumstances.
