(WASHINGTON) - An car and bicycle accident Wednesday afternoon resulted serious injuries to the bicyclist.
Around 5:30 p.m.the Washington Police were called to the corner of W. VanTrees and N.W. 15th in Washington.
When police arrived they found the rider of the bicycle, 46 year old James Matthew Hayes of Washington, laying on the ground with leg injuries.
According to several witnesses, Hayes was riding his bicycle in an erratic and reckless fashion, Southbound on NW 15th.
The witnesses reported Hayes did not stop at the stop sign at West VanTrees and pulled into the path of a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Alicia Mora of Washington.
The witnesses said that Hayes and his bicycle went airborne upon impact. Hayes suffered a severe laceration to his left thigh, severe trauma to his left ankle, abrasions over his entire body, and he complained of head pain.
Hayes was transported to the Daviess Community Hospital Emergency Room and then air-lifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
