(JACKSON COUNTY) - Eight people, including a car full of teenagers, were injured in a head-on crash in Jackson County on Saturday.
Police said a car carrying five teenage passengers was traveling eastbound on State Road 258 just before 5 p.m. when an oncoming truck turned in front of the vehicle, hitting it head on.
The driver of the car, Jared Roark, 20, of Seymour, was taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour with head injuries and broken bones.
Michelle Napier, 16, of Seymour, the front-seat passenger in the car, and Shaylee A. Zike, 18, of Freetown, who was sitting in the back seat, were both airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville, Ky., with multiple injuries.
The three other back seat passengers - Amber Nichole Blake, 18, of Seymour; Kalynn F. Hamilton, 17, of Brownstown; and Olivia Brewer, 15, of Seymour - were taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital with head injuries.
The driver of the truck, Kyle S. Halterman, 23, and his passenger, Jill D. Halterman, 22, were taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said they don't believe any of the four people in the back seat of the car were wearing seat belts.
"Although no one was ejected, the fact the passengers were not restrained contributed to their injuries," said Trooper Matt Holley.
